FASCAR Mayhem Series

Race #19

Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen

Watkins Glen International

The third quarter of the FASCAR Mayhem Series begins this weekend as the FASCAR Cup Series makes their way through upstate New York to Watkins Glen International Raceway.  The second road course to visit this season will begin the countdown to see which teams will survive this last part of the season and advance into the playoffs.  Nine races.  Nine more chances.  A number of teams will have to be weary as potential elimination nudges closer with each race that goes by; as does their chances to improve their standings.  It’s a fight to the finish that begins at Watkins Glen.

This final quarter of the regular season will be the last chance for teams to win the season series against certain opponents, that is unless these teams meet in the playoffs.

#1 Whooz Racing (12-6) vs.  #3 AE Motorsports (11-7)

Which one of these teams will take the series lead?  Both teams come into this race with a one race win streak.  These are two of the stronger teams within the division this season with Whooz Racing holding a 5-1 record, and AE with a 4-2 record.  The possibility exist that with a win by the #11 team that Whooz Racing could drop to third place if everything falls into place.  The #23 Chevy just wants to keep on winning and try to open some breathing space within the standings, but competition is keeping close onto Wendal’s heels.

#2 Little Diva Inc. (12-6)  vs.  #6 JCR Motorsports (9-9)

This is the other part of the equation that will factor into who is #1 after the race on Sunday.  Will LDI be able to dispatch JCR and send the #96 team to a losing record while possibly taking over the #1 ranking? That will depend on this battle and the battle between the #23 and the #11 .  The #18 Chevy does have a current three race win streak on the line, and is looking to make it four in a row.  Opposing Megan is a team that finds itself struggling right now.  The #96 team has dropped three races in a row and has fallen to sixth in the rankings.  This team must find a way to win in order to keep from slipping further back and having its’ playoff hopes in jeopardy.

#4 Dega Racing (10-8)  vs. #9 Scarlett Motorsports (7-11)

The #31 Dr. Pepper Toyota enters the last stage of the regular season battling to break into the Top 3.  Good news is they lead this series against Scarlett Motorsports 2-0, so this will be one regular season series victory for this team.  Within the division Dega Racing is 3-3, while Katie and her team is 1-5.  And depending on what happens as the Ebach’s battle one another could help the fortunes of this team.  Scarlett Motorsports is not in the position that any team wants to be in.  Currently, sitting in ninth place she would be on the outside of the bubble looking in should the season end now.  Thankfully for her she has those nine races left to try to improve on that statistic.  This is chance #1.  A win against Dega Racing and she keeps pace with the teams in front of her.  A loss makes things that much more difficult.

#5 Renegade Motorsports (9-9)  vs.  #7 L&K Racing (8-10)

Another series that is currently tied at 1-1.  L&K Racing was the most improved team from the second quarter of the season as opposed to the first third of the season.  That makes her a dangerous team to have to race in my book.  A tough task for the #95 Chevy as the third quarter opens on this season.  Both teams come into this race with a one race losing streak.  Sitting at 9-9 on the season is alright at the moment, but in order to make the playoffs, Renegade must maintain positive momentum to stay ahead of teams like L&K Racing.  This battle is difficult to call as both teams are streaky racers.  Which streak, which way, which team will decide this one.

#8 Smoke Motorsports (7-11)  vs.  #10 Raisin Kahne Racing (5-13)

This last matchup has two teams, one of them that likes living on the edge.  This battle of brothers will decide the regular season series.  Smoke Motorsports has shown improvement over the last few weeks by climbing up to 8th place in the rankings, and by becoming a bit of a spoiler team against the higher ranked opponents.  Those close defeats and upset wins builds confidence for a young team that is now considered “dangerous”.  Mychal will have to keep that type of attitude as he tried to stay in the playoff chase.  All is not lost yet for the #10 Cartoon Network Ford.  Vincent still has some time, but the window is closing very quickly unless this team begins to roll off several wins in a row.  The #10 team did show signs of that at Indy with an upset voctory against the #55 team.  A repeat performance of the Brickyard is a must in order for RKR to keep on surviving.

Man, when they say its not over until the checkerd flag is in the air -- this race proved that.

Omg, I still can't believe we pulled this one out. I'm speech-less, not really you would have thought I had just won the lottery or the championship. (LoL)
