When you hear the words Indianapolis Motor Speedway, you think of other hallowed venues such as Yankee Stadium, FenwayPark, Wrigley Field, Lambeau Field, and Wembley Stadium.IMS has been filled with racing history and racing tradition for 101 years. It is truly one of the great venues in the world.
On Sunday the FASCAR Mayhem Series will visit the famed speedway as they attempt to write a bit of history. The Sprint Cup cars will race around the 2.5 mile speedway. With only 10 races left in the regular season things are beginning to shape up for the playoff picture. This week’s matchups all have a bit of history and irony to them.Let’s take a look at them.
#1 Whooz Racing (11-6)vs. #4 Dega Racing (10-7)
Earlier this season these two teams faced one another ranked first and fourth.History repeats itself once again as both Whooz and Dega Racing meet again ranked first, and fourth. The last time Wendal won by 41 points over Joseph, now will history repeat itself, or will a new chapter be written in this rivalry? So far this season the #23 Chevy has had good success in the Sprint Cup division with a 4-1 record. The #31 Dr. Pepper Chevy has a 3-2 record in the division.
#2 Little Diva Inc. (11-6)vs. #8 Smoke Motorsports (7-10)
This matchup will showcase two of the young guns in the Mayhem Series. You can guess their rankings when these two met earlier in Kansas. Now add this bit of irony to the stats.Since Mychal’s win over Megan, both teams have went 5-4 to bring their race records to where they are now. The #39 Chevy seems to be waking up and making a serious push to stay into the playoff chase, winning the last two races.LDI looks for a bit of assistance in taking over the #1 ranking. To do so she will have to defeat Smoke and hope that Dega can win. Both Smoke Motorsports and Little Diva Inc. are the top two teams in the Sprint Cup division, both with 4-1 records.
Another team looking to catch the #23 is Angie and her Coca-Cola Dodge. The previous meeting between AE and JCR led to a close 20 pt. win for JCR back at Kansas Speedway. Now times are different with different circumstances.AE wants to reclaim the #1 spot that she held just a few races ago, but to do so she must climb back up the ladder, and see how the fight above goes. For JCR there seems to be a late, mid-season slump occurring. For whatever reason this team finds itself just unable to go forward, while other teams around them are gaining ground and passing the #96.Right now this team is still in the playoffs, but they must turn things around or else it could get really scary for them.JCR is 1-4 in the Sprint Cup division. Not a good omen when you are battling against the third ranked team, who has a 3-2 record in the division.
#5 Renegade Motorsports (9-8) vs. #9 Scarlett Motorsports (6-11)
The #95 Chevy has battled through adversity all season long to finally make it to this point.Yet there seems to be a plateau that this young team just can’t quite reach. Now Austin and his team must fight back that adversity to reach the Top 3.We know that the John Deere Chevy is a streaky machine, and will that streak continue at Indy?Scarlett Motorsports is also in a fight.A fight to get back into the playoff picture. Two losses in a row have really hurt this team and their run to the playoffs.Katie has beaten Austin once before as a ninth ranked team, can she do it again and finally erase that zero that is in her wins column in the Sprint Cup division?Austy has a 3-2 record in the division.
#7 L&K Racing (8-9)vs.#10 Raisin Kahne Racing (4-13)
The last matchup of the race could just be the most intriguing.I spoke earlier of irony and how it all seems to be with us in the Mayhem Series. As we know the #55 earlier this season had a 7 race losing streak.Currently RKR has a 7 race losing streak of his own. That has tied the record in the FASCAR Mayhem Series. Both teams’ rankings are reversed from where they were when they faced each other at Kansas.L&K won that race by 186 points.Linda also snapped her 7 race losing streak with that win against the #10.Now Vincent has that opportunity to do the same against her. However, another loss for RKR and it he claims the longest losing streak in Mayhem history.A win can erase all of that just as it did for Linda.Only trouble is the #55 Diet-Coke is the hottest driver on the circuit right now with three consecutive Mayhem wins and also winning the Classic Series race on Saturday.
The #95 team is ready to get back to some Head 2 Head Series racing.
We've been working on a new car for this race so, hopefully this will be our day and we can get back on a winning streak here in the FASCAR Head 2 Head Series.
As Whooz Racing & Renegade Motorsports will be at the ND State Fair on Saturday night jamming out to KISS.
So, hopefully we can hear our crew chiefs on Sunday. (LoL) I remember the last time I saw KISS, I couldn't hear for a few days and that was 20 years ago. (LoL)
